In order to sustain the environment Kilfenora Hostel has implemented some practises such as recycling facilities throughout the hostel. We also use energy bulbs and use ecover products.
As Kilfenora Hostel is in the Burren we encourage people to visit the Burren and give you as much information about the area so that you can appreciate and learn about the area.
Interpretation and education of the Burren is essential to you enjoying of this unique area that is why we provide literature and DVDs in the common room for you to use.
Kilfenora Hostel contributes to conservation in the area locally. We are also members of BirdWatch Ireland.
We encourage our customers to support the local community by using the local shops. Post office and experience Irish pubs and the traditional Irish music and dancing that they provide. We also use local walking guides.
In order to understand your needs better and improve our services we would ask you to take time to fill out the feedback forms in the reception area.

It is important that the staff of Kilfenora Hostel are sensitive to the different cultures that visit, in the same respect is important that visitors to Kilfenora and Ireland are aware and respectful of Irish culture. Kilfenora Eco Tour Package 2012
The package involves one night accommodation with continental breakfast in Kilfenora Hostel you will be given a map of Kilfenora and its environs as well as a fact sheet on the history of Kilfenora. This includes information on the famous Kilfenora Ceili Band formed back in 1909 and is still going strong today. It also includes the history of St Fachtna who founded an Abbey in Kilfenora back in the sixth century, information on the high crosses dating as far back to the 9th and 10th century and why the Pope is in fact the Bishop of Kilfenora. You will be able to walk around the village and experience this great archaeology for yourself and who knows you may even bump into our Bishop!!!
You will then take 'A walk through time' in the Burren Centre that gives you an introduction to the visual delights and ancient mysteries of the Burren region which covers 1500 hectares and is 341 million years old!
Finally you will be brought out to the Burren by Tony Kirby who has been running 'Heart of Burren' tours since 2002. Tony will take you for a two hour walk in Mullaghmore one of the most stunning areas of the Burren.
Returning to nature seems to be a natural evolution when things get tough in the world's economy so trying to stay ahead of the game and cutting cost can be easily achieved by making sound eco decisions with your business. This has been achieved by Kilfenora Eco Breaks by making changes in our accommodation and packages. The changes within the accommodation such as recycling packaging and waste, conservation of water, using energy efferent light bulbs, changing energy providers, using eco sound cleaning products. Within the hostel you will find literature on the local environment as well as information on 'Leave No Trace' and the 'Burren Code'. Your information on the area is printed on recyclable paper. Kilfenora Eco Breaks also contribute to 'Burren Trust' and organise An Taisce 'National Spring Clean' each year.
This package can be extended to involve other Burren Ecotourism Network members. The package can also be tailored to families or school groups.
